Ski House

About

Designed by Jimmy Gray of Gray Architects in Auckland, this project stands as a legacy build for our team—an ambitious undertaking defined by its sheer scale and exceptional attention to detail.

American White Oak joinery features throughout the home, complemented by soaring 3-metre ceilings and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry that showcases precision and craftsmanship in every room.

Panels are finished in Osmo oil to enhance and preserve the natural grain of the oak, while solid 80mm American oak worktops run through most of the home, delivering warmth and durability. In the kitchen, Silver Roots marble bench-tops and splash-backs introduce a bold natural stone feature with timeless elegance.

Solid oak handles, crafted in-house, are meticulously routered into the cabinetry fronts, offering a seamless look that conceals fixings and adds to the refined detailing throughout the home.
Bespoke internal doors feature throughout, with matching cedar door linings that flow into the surrounding wall linings. All are mounted on concealed tracks or pivots, maintaining clean, uninterrupted lines. A solid timber front door with charred sugi lining provides a striking and tactile entry point, blending natural texture with architectural impact.

One of the home’s standout elements is the staircase—both the solid oak treads and the timber balustrading appear to float from the ceiling, creating a dramatic architectural centrepiece that blends structural innovation with fine joinery.
